Top 3 Mistakes You Should Never Do When Applying For A Job
Why didn’t we look at your resume?
Recruiters spend generally less than 30 seconds on reviewing a resume before deciding whether to progress a candidate to an interview. This means that your resume needs to grab the attention of the potential employer within seconds. So if you truly want that job, make those few seconds count and stop your CV failing the “first glance” test! In today’s fiercely competitive job market, you cannot afford to make mistakes on your resume.
Below we have listed the 3 most irritating mistakes job seekers make while applying for a job.:
1. Endlessly listing irrelevant work experiences
Yes, employers want to know you better across your CV, but you don’t necessarily need to include everything that you ever did. Prospective employers are not likely to be interested in knowing every single detail of your life so far. Do not include past work experiences that are not relevant enough to that specific position you are applying for! Having worked as a talented pizza maker for years in the past is nice, but it would not necessarily make you qualified for an accountant position. So it’s time to move on.
2. Messy CV
There is literally nothing worse than looking at an unclear, unorganized curriculum with poor formatting. At first place, a messy resume gives the impression that you are not organized and you don’t appear to have made much of an effort. Employers will simply toss it into the trash, as no one ever wants to waste time to wade through a messy curriculum in order to understand the benefits of hiring you. If you don’t care enough to create a visually appealing curriculum, someone else will.
3. Sending blank email with CV attached
The Number One mistake you can ever make is sending through your resume as an attachment to a blank email. You are basically telling the recipient that you don’t even try to make a great first impression. Hiring managers won’t bother opening your CV if you clearly show a lack of common courtesy and professionalism. What would be their incentive to open an attachment from a blank email? No one asks you to write a long dissertation in a flowery language. With a couple of lines stating that you’re attaching your curriculum vitae for the advertised position you can avoid seeming amateurish.
CV’s are extremely important in the application process. This is your first chance to make a good impression and to distinguish, so why would you want to waste it!? With a hint of attention you can avoid these silly but fatal mistakes and you can get one step closer to your next dream job.
